Terms of Service
Effective date: 26 August 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and MB Kocius, a limited liability company registered in Lithuania, European Union (company code 307051502, VAT LT100018675617) ("Legamap", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the legamap.com website and, from the day the service opens, the Legamap service.
Contact: hello@legamap.com · Data protection: privacy@legamap.com
Legamap is written in plain language on purpose. Plain language does not make it less binding.
1. What Legamap is — and what it is not
Legamap is an information tool. It lets you build a structured map of what you own — where your accounts, property, policies and other assets are held, and how a legal heir can get access — name the people who should receive that map, and have it delivered to them if you permanently stop responding to our check-ins.
Legamap is not a will and has no legal force. It does not decide who inherits anything, does not transfer any asset or any right to any asset, and is not a substitute for a will, notary, or the inheritance process that applies where you live. What we deliver is information: a search instruction your heirs can hand to whichever legal process applies to them.
Legamap is not a credential store. We do not store passwords, PINs, full account numbers or cryptocurrency recovery phrases, and the product actively refuses input that looks like them (Section 8).
Legamap is not a financial service. We do not hold, receive, move or manage money or any other asset on your behalf or anyone else's, and we have no access to your accounts. Legamap is not a bank, payment service, custodian or investment service, and it does not provide legal, tax, financial or investment advice. Any explanatory material we deliver alongside your map is general guidance, not advice.
2. When the service opens; the waitlist
The Legamap service is not open yet. Until it opens:
- the website exists for information and for joining the waitlist;
- no payment is accepted, and nothing is for sale — there are no pre-orders, deposits, reservations, or ways to lock in a price;
- any prices shown are informational, so you know what you would be waiting for.
Waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we store your email address for one purpose: to email you when the service opens. You can additionally opt in to a monthly progress note. Every email contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing from progress notes does not remove you from the launch list unless you choose that too. Joining the waitlist creates no obligation on you and no priority right other than receiving the launch email.
Sections 4–17 of these Terms describe the service and apply from the day it opens or the day you create an account, whichever is later. Sections 1–3 and 18–23 apply to the website from now.
3. Who can use Legamap
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. You agree to provide accurate information, keep your contact details current, and use the service only for yourself and only for lawful purposes. One account per person.
Because the whole product depends on being able to reach you, keeping your contact channels current is not a formality: registration requires a primary email and a phone number, two-factor authentication is mandatory, and you may add a secondary email as an optional extra channel.
4. Roles
- Owner (“you”) — the account holder who builds the map, pays, and responds to check-ins.
- Recipient — a person you designate to receive some or all of your map after delivery. You decide what each recipient sees. Until delivery, a recipient can see only the fact that they have been named — never any content.
- Trustee — a person we contact to confirm the situation before anything is ever delivered. At least one trustee is required for activation. A trustee may be the same person as a recipient.
Recipients and trustees get their own accounts, created in advance, so delivery never depends on a single email arriving at the worst possible moment.
5. Trial
New accounts start with a 21-day free trial. No payment card is required.
During the trial you can build your map and experience the check-in flow. The delivery protocol is not active during the trial: no delivery guarantee exists until your first activation payment. We say this here because a false sense of protection is worse than no protection.
If you do not activate, your account expires at the end of the trial and your data is deleted 30 days later. We warn you before the trial ends and before deletion.
6. Fees and payment
The service is paid in two parts: a one-time activation (which includes your first year of editing) and a yearly renewal that keeps your map editable from the second year onward. Coming back after a lapse costs a reactivation fee that restores editing and resets your guarantee. A reduced founding activation price is available to the first 100 customers from launch day; it cannot be bought or reserved earlier.
Current prices are always shown on the pricing page and at checkout. Every price you see includes VAT or applicable sales tax — the number you see is the number you pay.
Merchant of record. Purchases are processed by our merchant of record, Paddle, which is the seller of record for your transaction and handles payment, tax, invoicing, and refund processing. Your purchase is subject to Paddle's checkout terms in addition to these Terms; these Terms govern the service itself.
The yearly renewal is a subscription. From the second year it is charged automatically every 12 months until you cancel. We email you before every renewal. You can cancel at any time, in one step, from your account; cancelling stops the next charge, and the year you have already paid for stays yours. The subscription also ends when your map is delivered to your recipients (Section 7) or when you delete your account (Section 13): in both cases it is cancelled immediately, and nothing more is charged.
If a renewal payment fails or you cancel, your account moves to the read-only state described in Section 9 when the paid period ends — it is not deleted, and Section 10 applies.
7. Check-ins and the delivery protocol
The core of the service is a deliberately slow, multi-step protocol. Its guiding rule: a late delivery costs weeks; a false one cannot be undone. When in doubt, the system waits.
Active accounts (paid): we check in with you on a roughly 30-day cycle. Missing one check-in does nothing. Over the following weeks we escalate across your registered channels — primary email, secondary email if you added one, and SMS. Any response, or simply logging in, resets the cycle.
If you stop responding entirely: we contact your trustee and ask them to confirm the situation. Only after trustee confirmation does the system declare the case, and even then there is a 72-hour undo window during which you (or we) can stop everything and recipients still see nothing. Only after that window closes is your map delivered to your recipients, each seeing only the scope you assigned.
Lapsed accounts (guarantee window): the cycle stretches to roughly 90 days, and one rule becomes absolute: without your trustee's confirmation or a verified death certificate, nothing is ever delivered. There is no automatic path to delivery for a lapsed account.
Death certificate path: a recipient or trustee may submit a death certificate. Documents are reviewed manually, with care, under a documented procedure; we may request additional verification and we hold delivery whenever verification is unclear.
If the trustee does not respond, the case is placed on hold for human review. It is not auto-delivered. A case cannot stay on hold indefinitely: it is held until the end of your delivery guarantee window (Section 10), and if nothing is resolved by then, the case is closed and the data is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy. An heir who provides proof of inheritance can also step into your position and resolve the case.
Pausing. You can pause check-ins for up to 90 days from your account (travel, hospital, off-grid). We may apply reasonable limits to repeated consecutive pauses and may inform your trustee when pauses are extended repeatedly.
We may adjust the precise timings and channels of the protocol to make it safer or more reliable, but never in a way that removes the trustee confirmation step for lapsed accounts or the undo window.
8. Your map and prohibited content
You own your data. You grant us the license needed to store, process, encrypt, export, and — when the protocol completes — deliver it, and for nothing else.
Prohibited data. The map is a guide to where things are, not a set of keys. You must not enter, and the product will actively refuse: full bank account numbers (IBANs), payment card numbers, PINs, passwords, cryptocurrency seed/recovery phrases, and national personal identification numbers. Record that a hardware wallet exists and where it is — never the phrase that unlocks it. We may block, and are not obliged to store, content that violates this section.
You are responsible for the accuracy of your map. An accurate map of modest assets is worth more to your family than a stale map of everything.
9. Account states
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Trial | 21 days, full editing, no delivery guarantee. |
| Active | Paid. Full editing, 30-day check-in cycle, delivery protocol active. |
| Lapsed | Payment stopped. Map is read-only (viewing and export still work), 90-day check-in cycle, delivery still guaranteed under Section 10. |
| Guarantee expiring | The two-year window is ending. We escalate warnings and send a final encrypted export. |
| Closed | The guarantee has ended. Data is deleted after a 30-day grace period. |
Before any account reaches Closed, we warn you repeatedly, across all channels, ahead of time, and send a final encrypted export so the map survives us either way.
10. The two-year delivery guarantee
This section is the promise the product is built around.
- If you stop paying, your map goes read-only — it does not disappear.
- For two (2) years from your last successful payment, we continue the check-in protocol in the lapsed mode (Section 7) and, if the protocol completes with your trustee's confirmation or a verified death certificate, we deliver your map to your recipients at no charge.
- Every successful payment resets the guarantee to two years from that payment.
- Before the guarantee ends, we send escalating warnings and a final encrypted export (Section 12).
Scope and limits. The guarantee is our commitment to operate the protocol described in Section 7 with reasonable care during the guarantee period. It is not insurance and it cannot outrun the information you gave us: if your contact details, your trustee's, or your recipients' details have gone stale and cannot be reached, the protocol can stall — this is why exports exist. The guarantee ends early only if you delete your account (Section 13), if delivery has already occurred, or where Section 17 (wind-down) applies.
The guarantee survives a sale of the company. If Legamap is ever sold, the obligations in this section transfer to the buyer as a binding condition of the sale.
11. People you add: recipients and trustees
When you add a recipient or trustee, you are giving us another person's name and contact details. You confirm you are entitled to provide them for this purpose.
Notification. Your trustee always receives a notification when added, because their role in the protocol requires it. For each recipient, you choose whether they are told now or not until delivery: tell them now (the default) means the recipient receives, within 30 days of being added, a neutral notification that they have been named as a Legamap contact, that no content is disclosed to them until delivery, and that they may object; tell them nothing until delivery means the recipient hears nothing from us before the day your map is delivered to them. You can change this choice for any recipient at any time, and every recipient receives the delivery notification regardless of it. Where a notice is required by EU data protection law (GDPR Article 14), it is deliberately written to reveal nothing about your map. If a person objects, we inform you, mark the record, and leave the decision with you.
The trustee's role. A trustee confirms, to the best of their knowledge, whether you have died or are permanently incapacitated, when the protocol asks. The role is voluntary and unpaid, a trustee may decline or resign at any time, and a trustee acting honestly and in good faith is not responsible for the consequences of a confirmation that later proves mistaken — the protocol's undo window and our verification steps exist precisely so that no single click is irreversible.
Our commitment to your trustee. We will not bring a claim against a trustee who acted honestly and in good faith, and we will not seek to recover from them anything we may owe as a result of such a confirmation. A trustee is doing an unpaid favour for someone they care about, at a moment that is already difficult; the responsibility for deciding what the system does with their answer is ours, and it stays ours. This does not apply to a confirmation given dishonestly — for example, in collusion with a recipient.
12. Exports — the failsafe
We automatically generate an encrypted export of your map — after activation, after each annual review, before your guarantee ends, and whenever you request one. The export is a PDF you can read, with a machine-readable copy attached inside it, and it is locked with a password. We generate that password, show it to you once, and never store it. We cannot recover it for you, and we keep no hint.
The export exists so that your map survives even if we do not. Keep your latest export somewhere your family could eventually reach.
13. Cancellation, withdrawal, refunds, deletion
Withdrawal and refunds. If you are a consumer in the EU, you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal from a purchase. In practice we go further: every payment can be refunded in full within 14 days of the charge, no questions asked, wherever you live. How to exercise this, what a refund undoes, and how refunds are processed through Paddle as merchant of record is described in the Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms.
Stopping payment is always available and never punished with deletion: your account moves to Lapsed and Section 10 applies.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account and all data from your settings at any time. Deletion is immediate in the product and completed in backups within 30 days. Deleting your account cancels the delivery guarantee — there is then nothing left to deliver. We say this clearly before you confirm. Deleting your account also cancels your yearly subscription immediately, so nothing more is charged.
14. Security — where the trust actually sits
Security details live on the Security page and in the Privacy Policy; the parts that belong in a contract are these:
- Your data is stored in the European Union and processed under GDPR.
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest; the most sensitive fields (access instructions, attached documents) carry an additional layer of individual encryption.
- Two-factor authentication is mandatory for every account, including recipients at delivery.
- Every read of customer data — including by us — is logged. Ordinary administration cannot open your access instructions; emergency access requires a documented procedure that automatically notifies you.
- Legamap is not a zero-knowledge system, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our servers are technically able to decrypt your data. This is a deliberate design decision: on the day it matters, your recipients will not have your key. Any service promising both zero-knowledge encryption and automatic delivery after death is describing something that cannot exist.
We maintain security measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, test them, and commission independent security testing before accepting payments. No system on the internet can promise it is impenetrable, and we do not.
15. Acceptable use
You must not: use Legamap for any unlawful purpose; enter data about another person you have no right to provide; attempt to probe, disable, or overload the service; misrepresent a death or incapacity; or use the delivery protocol to harass anyone. We may suspend or terminate accounts that do, with notice where the law requires it, and with export of your data where the violation does not make that inappropriate.
16. Intellectual property
The service, its software, design, and content (other than your data) belong to MB Kocius or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable right to use the service under these Terms. You grant us no rights in your data beyond the license in Section 8.
17. Changes to the service; wind-down
We may improve or change the service, provided the changes do not materially reduce what you paid for — in particular the guarantee in Section 10 and the safeguards in Section 7.
If we ever have to shut the service down, we commit to an orderly wind-down, documented on the Transparency page: advance notice on every channel, a final encrypted export to every account, and a defined period during which delivery-in-progress cases are completed. If the company is sold instead, Section 10 applies and the guarantee transfers to the buyer.
18. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — including liability for intent or gross negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to that: Legamap is an information tool, and our total liability under these Terms is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for losses caused by inaccurate or stale information in your map, by contact details that could not be reached, by a trustee's or recipient's acts or omissions, or by events outside our reasonable control (force majeure) — though where such an event merely delays us, the protocol resumes when it can, and the design principle stands: when in doubt, the system waits rather than delivers.
19. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Lithuania. If you are a consumer, you also keep any protection granted by the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there.
If something goes wrong, write to hello@legamap.com first — most things are fixable faster than any formal process. EU consumers may also use alternative dispute resolution; in Lithuania, the competent authority is the State Consumer Rights Protection Authority (vvtat.lt).
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes we give at least 30 days' notice by email before they take effect. If you do not agree to a change, you may stop using the service; changes never retroactively shorten a guarantee period already paid for.
21. General
If part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your account; we may transfer this agreement only together with the obligations in Section 10 and 17. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Refund Policy are the entire agreement between us about the service.
